HB 374
AN ACT relating to cultured meat products.
In Plain Language
This bill removes cultured meat from the list of misbranded foods, but then prohibits anyone from making, selling, or trading cultured meat products. In effect, cultured meat—meat grown from animal cells in labs rather than raised on farms—would be banned from the market in the state.
Official summary
Amend KRS 217.035 to remove meat or a meat product containing cultured animal tissue from the list of foods deemed misbranded; amend KRS 217.175 to prohibit the manufacture, sale, or exchange of meat or a meat product containing cultured animal tissue.
