SB 144
AN ACT relating to confiscated firearms.
In Plain Language
This bill requires that firearms used in homicides must be destroyed by law enforcement. It allows the Kentucky State Police to destroy other confiscated guns if they're damaged, contaminated, unsafe, or if the original owner requests it. The bill also says that when law enforcement transfers guns to the state police, they can't damage or modify them except for testing, and all agencies must have written policies in place by January 2026 about how they destroy homicide weapons.
