HB 521
AN ACT relating to crimes and punishments.
In Plain Language
This law redefines stalking as a single crime instead of two separate ones, making it a Class D felony in most cases or a Class C felony if there are aggravating circumstances like using social media or threatening behavior. The bill defines stalking to include repeated conduct that causes someone to fear for their safety or suffer emotional distress. Existing restraining orders and protective orders remain in effect under the new law.
